The full-day tour includes a private tour with a scientist to the fossil sites of Drimolen and Sterkfontein, located in the "Cradle of Humankind", near Johannesburg, South Africa. The tour includes morning teas/coffees and lunch at a local restaurant. The tour normally departs at 08h30 but can be adjusted slightly to accommodate your schedule. You can either meet us at the entrance to the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve and follow us onto the Drimolen site or we can arrange transportation with a private driver/guide (at an additional cost). Full-Day Tour Schedule
08h30: Meet group at Hotel/B&B (for those requiring transportation) and depart for the "Cradle of Humankind" World Heritage Site.
09h30: Arrvie at Rhino and Lion Park and continue onto Drimolen. Enjoy a short game drive on the way to the Drimolen fossil site.
10h00: Arrive at Drimolen. Refreshments served at a secluded picnic spot. While enjoying morning teas on a private fossil site, a short fossil cast demonstration and talk on human origins is presented.
11h00: A guided tour of the actual fossil deposits of Drimolen is conducted. As Drimolen is a working site, one has the rare privilege to see two million year old fossils.
11h45: Depart for local restaurant.
12h30: Enjoy lunch
14h00: Depart lunch spot for Sterkfontein fossil site.
14h30: Arrive at Sterkfontein. Enjoy a guided tour of the on-site museum, a brief tour of the underground caves a view of the fossiliferous deposits.
15h30: Depart for Johannesburg, Pretoria or Magailiesberg.
16h30: Arrive at departure point.
